Truck driver killed after collision with van on M1 near Drogheda

Driver in his forties pronounced dead at scene with no other injuries reported

A man in his forties has been killed in a road crash on the M1 motorway between Monasterboice and Drogheda North.

The fatal collision occurred at about 12.45pm when a truck being driven by the deceased collided with a van.

Gardai said after the initial impact he hit a roadside embankment and overturned. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where a post-mortem will be undertaken.

No other injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

A section of the M1 southbound between junctions 10 and 11 currently remains closed to traffic as a garda forensic team investigates the circumstances of the collision. Diversions are in place.

Investigating gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact Drogheda garda station at (041) 987 4200, the garda confidential line on 1800 666111 or any other station.
