Two men have been charged in Co Louth after gardaí seized cannabis plants worth some €160,000.

The discovery was made when a number of houses were searched yesterday in the Dundalk area.

Some 200 cannabis plants were seized as part of the operation which gardaí said was intelligence led and aimed at disrupting criminal networks. A further €2,000 of herbal cannabis was also taken from the properties.

Two men, aged 25 and 27, were arrested as part of the operation and are being detained at Dundalk Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. They are due to appear before Dublin District Court this evening.
