Two men have been charged in connection with a drugs seizure worth €600,000 at Newlands Cross in Newbridge, Co Kildare.

The two men, aged 34 and 40, appeared before Blanchardstown District Court on Friday at 10.30am.

A third man, aged 22, who was also arrested in connection with the investigation has been released from Garda custody without charge.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The three men were arrested after gardaí seized heroin worth €600,000 in Newbridge on Wednesday evening.

A follow-up search at properties in Kildare and Dublin led to the discovery of cocaine and cannabis herb bringing the total value of Wednesday’s drug seizure to €900,000.

The men were arrested when two cars were stopped and searched at Newlands Cross at about 7.30pm on Wednesday as part of an ongoing investigation targeting drug trafficking activities in Kildare.

The three remain in custody at Clondalkin Garda station under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 as amended.

The arrests were carried out by gardaí from Kildare with the support of the Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau.
