A man and a woman have been arrested after gardaí found cannabis herb worth €40,000 in a car stopped at a checkpoint in Dublin.

A Garda spokesman said gardaí from the traffic unit at Blanchardstown were conducting the checkpoint on the N7 and stopped a car at about 8pm last night.

A man in his late 30s and a woman in her mid 20s were arrested at the scene.

They are currently being detained at Ballyfermot Garda station under the provisions of section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
