Two held over Portmarnock robbery

Two men in their 20s are in custody following an armed robbery at a pharmacy in Portmarnock, north Co Dublin, last night.

Two members of staff were closing the pharmacy on Strand Road at about 8.30pm when they were approached by two males armed with handguns.

The assailants were described as being approximatley 177cm (5ft 10inches) in height. One was wearing a grey balaclava and a hooded top. The second was wearing a black balaclava.

The men took a watch from one of the staff members and left the scene following a brief scuffle during which one member of staff sustained minor injuries.

The men escaped in a dark coloured car. Gardaí were notified and recovered the car at Red Arches, Baldoyle, a short time later. The two men were arrested nearby.

Both are being detained at Coolock and Swords Garda stations under the provisions of section 30 Offences Against the State Act 193 .
