Two men have been arrested following an armed robbery at a bank night safe in Dublin in which cheques worth a reported €1.1 million were taken.
The suspects, both aged in their 20s, targeted a man who was about to lodge a number of documents and cheques at the safe on Main Street in Tallaght.
They forced the victim to hand over the bag containing the cheques shortly before midnight last night and fled.
Gardaí say one of the men was armed with what appeared to be a firearm and the other with a hammer.
The pair, who have addresses in the area, were later arrested and the bag and its contents were recovered.
They were taken to Tallaght and Rathfarnham Garda stations under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 where they can be held for up to 72 hours.
