Gardaí arrested two men on Wednesday night following a high-speed car chase in north Cork.

The men are alleged to have driven a four-wheel-drive SUV in a highly dangerous manner for about 20 km from Charleville through Buttevant before eventually coming to a stop near Mallow.

Several other cars were hit during the incident which lasted about half an hour. The men were arrested after the vehicle was eventually stopped near New Twopothouse.

On Thursday morning, a Garda spokesman confirmed the men were still in custody. They can be questioned for up to 24 hours before being charged or released.
