The Defence Forces deployed the explosive ordnance disposal (eod) team in response to a Garda request from An Garda Síochána after a suspect device was found near a private residence home in Lisfarrell, Co Longford.

An explosive device was made safe in Longford in the early hours of this morning.

An Army bomb disposal team rendered the viable improvised explosive device safe. The Defence Forces deployed the explosive ordnance disposal team in response to a Garda request after a suspect device was found near a private home in Lisfarrell, Co Longford. Road closures were put in place for public safety.

The team arrived at the scene at 11.40pm last night. The device was confirmed as viable with an assessment and was made safe without the need for a controlled explosion. The area was declared safe at 1.50am.

All component parts and evidence were handed to gardaí to assist them with their investigation into the incident.
