Gardai have said a 50-year-old woman found dead in a house Bray, Co Wicklow today died in "violent circumstances".
The death, in a property on the Southern Cross Road, is now being treated as murder after a postmortem was carried out on the woman’s remains by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis at St Columcille’s Hospital in Loughlinstown, Dublin.
Details of the postmortem were not being published for operational reasons, gardaí said in a statement.
“Investigating gardaí have confirmed that the woman died in violent circumstances,” it added.
A 21-year-old man was arrested this morning in connection with incident and remains in custody under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
The woman’s body was found in the house at about 1.30am today. The scene was sealed off and a forensic examination was ongoing tonight.
An incident room has been established at Bray Garda station and a Garda family liaison officer has been appointed in the case.
