The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it is providing consular assistance to the family of an Irishman shot dead in Florida.
Darren William Haverty, originally from Greenhills in Dublin, was killed following an alleged row with his girlfriend Wendy Hanks in Holopaw, Osceola County last Tuesday.
Ms Hanks (33) has since been charged with first degree murder.
A spokeswoman said the Department of Foreign Affairs had offered assistance to Mr Haverty’s family, who remain in Ireland.
“We do not give information on individuals but we can confirm that we are providing consular assistance to the victim’s family,” she said.
It is understood Mr Haverty (39) had been living in the US for some time.
The accused, Ms Hanks, told police she shot Mr Haverty following a heated argument in which she claims he “battered” her and approached her with a knife.
