A 27-year old woman has been arrested in Belfast in connection with the attempted murder of two police officers, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said.

She was detained following an attack in the Crumlin Road area on Tuesday.

Officers escaped injury after two pipe bombs were thrown at their patrol.

They were targeted while responding to an emergency call during the early hours of the morning.

The devices were hurled as the two officers got out of their patrol car.

A PSNI spokeswoman has said they were not physically hurt but had been left badly shaken by the ordeal.
