A woman is being treated for a number of injuries after a brutal gang sex attack in Northern Ireland.

One man has been arrested after the 51-year-old victim was set upon in Belfast in the early hours of this morning, police have said.

She was walking along an alley between Balholm Drive and Crumlin Road in the north of the city at the time when three men - unknown to the woman - sexually assaulted her.

The victim suffered a suspected broken nose, suspected fractured cheek bone and a cut to her right eye during the ordeal.

She has been taken to hospital for medical treatment.

One suspect - aged 49 - is being detained in connection with the attack.

A PSNI spokesman said the man was helping them with their inquiries.

“Police would appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information to contact detectives at Tennent Street Police Station on 0845 600 8000,” he said.

“Information can also be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
