Crimestoppers has teamed up with Dublin Bus to launch a new advertising campaign.
The Crimestoppers posters appeal to those who may have information on criminal activity to call a free, confidential number. The campaign is expected to reach over half a million commuters on over 1,000 buses a day.
Launching the campaign earlier today, the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr McDowell, said it was vital that the campaign was "fully supported by business, the media and the public". He praised Dublin Bus for its support of the scheme and announced a further €50,000 in matching funding for Crimestoppers, which brings the total funds available to almost €200,000.
Other sponsors of the scheme include Irish Rail; Irish Petroleum Association of Ireland; Ulster Bank; Dublin City Council, An Post and the Vintners' Federation of Ireland.
The Crimestoppers chairman, Mr John Hynes, appealed for further help from representative bodies that had yet to provide support for scheme.
