Huntingdon - Thousands of people gathered yesterday to mark the 400th anniversary of the birth of Oliver Cromwell. A church service and 17th century street market were held in Huntingdon, where Cromwell was born on April 25th, 1599.
However, the local Catholic Church played no part in the service. Father Nicholas Kearney, parish priest at St Michael the Archangel, Huntingdon, said parishioners did not think it appropriate to commemorate Cromwell.
