All-Ireland Club Championships: Kilmacud Crokes will meet four-time winners Crossmaglen Rangers in the club football final after overcoming the respective challenges of Corofin and Dromcollogher-Broadford this afternoon, albeit in markedly differing circumstances.
The Limerick champions were simply no match for the Ulster kingpins in Longford, Crossmaglen strolling to a one-sided 4-12 to 0-6 triumph.
Despite losing Tony McEntee to injury in the early stages, goals from Jamie Clarke and John Murtagh helped establish a comfortable 2-6 to 0-4 lead at the break for the Armagh side.
Clarke had a hand in Cross’s third goal, giving the killer pass to Tony Kernan, before Kernan slotted home a fourth to kill off any lingering hopes Dromcollogher entertained of launching a fightback.
In Mullingar, Kilmacud’s Mark Vaughan was instrumental in keeping Corofin at bay as the Dublin side eked out a 2-11 to 0-11 win over the Galway champions.
Corofin, with a stiff breeze at their backs, started strongly were rewarded with early scores from Alan O’Donovan. But Kilmacud soon wrested back the momentum and when Pat Burke fizzed a shot past Bernard Power the Leinster side went ahead on the scoreboard.
Having then trailed by four early in the second half, Corofin rallied to level matters with 10 minutes on the clock before Vaughan, who would finish with a total of 1-6, stamped his authority on proceedings.
