CTC Cruise Lines has said one of its liners has cancelled plans to stop in Derry. Last summer, the Southern Cross was the first liner in over a quarter of a century to visit the city and was met by bands, local political leaders and a port side carnival.
Mr Nick Lyne, operations manager for CTC Cruise Lines, said: "For many of the passengers on board, the call into Derry was to have been the highlight of a six day cruise. However, the developments of the last few days have led to growing concern and therefore the decision has been made to cancel the call."
The BBC has cancelled the Radio One Roadshow which was due to start yesterday. The annual summer tour of UK holiday resorts was to have started in Bangor, Co Down yesterday and moved on to Portrush, Co Antrim, today.
A spokeswoman said the visits were cancelled "because of the trouble" but it was hoped to reschedule them for later in the summer if the situation improved.
