Parents should talk to children about cyber-bullying and not wait until it happens.
Parents should inform themselves about safer mobile phone and internet use and how they can be used in a negative way.
Parents should encourage their children to intervene when they witness or are aware of cyber-bullying. This may include supporting the victim and reporting the bullying to a person in authority.
Young people should be given confidence to respond effectively to cyber-bullying by not retaliating; by saving the evidence; by telling someone; by blocking the sender and by reporting any incidents to the service provider and/or the Gardaí.
Schools must have a whole- school policy to which teachers, students and parents sign up. All parties should be included in developing policy as well as enforcing it.
Teachers may need professional training on how to respond to cyber-bullying.
