ON Friday, March 22nd, not only will just about every lapel in the country be sporting a daffodil for Daffodil Day but if you are eating out, expect the table decorations to be entirely yellow. This year the country's top restaurateurs have put in a hefty order for daffodils to the Irish Cancer Society. The idea is that they will give away a flower to each of their diners.

Some eateries are going a bit further in their generosity, including the Guinea Pig in Dalkey whose owner Mervyn Stewart will be donating 10 per cent of the day's takings to the charity.

At the launch of the hugely successful fund raising day (£1 million was collected last year), Eileen Murphy thought that the day would be a great excuse to take the family to lunch in one of the participating restaurants and that's just what she intends to do. She has recently moved house from Foxrock to Leopardstown and on the day itself will be just back from a well earned break in London.

Also settling into new surroundings is recently married Brown Thomas PR manager Dolores Delaney who is busy putting her own stamp on husband Michael Cullen's bachelor house. Ann Marie Nohl, whose trendy Expresso Bar restaurant in Ballsbridge is taking part in Daffodil Day, is now on the lookout for a likely premises so she can open Expresso number two.
