Ireland's youngest national newspaper, Daily Ireland, hits the news stands for the last time today.

After 20 months in operation, the Belfast-based pro-republican newspaper will cease trading.

Editor Mairtín Ó Muilleoir, of the Andersonstown News Group, claimed the British government's refusal to allow it to tender for advertisements was a "bridge too far".

Announcing the newspaper's closure, which will see around 15 staff lose their jobs, he said: "We have examined the implications of that decision and have concluded that it means it will be impossible for us to cover our costs going forward and so we have reluctantly decided to cease publishing from Friday."
