Dairy farmers in Leinster are staging an unofficial protest today against the low wholesale milk prices they get from Glanbia.

Up to 60 dairy farmers from the Leinster Milk Producers Group, an independent farmers’ body, protested outside Glanbia’s main distribution centre at Fonthill Retail Park, Clondalkin, Co Dublin, this morning.

In another development, the Irish Creamery and Milk Producers’ Association (ICMSA) the main representative body for Irish dairy farmers, will meet Glanbia tomorrow to voice members’ concerns about falling milk prices.

In March, the price of milk fell to 27.8 cent per litre which equates to 99.5 per gallon and below the "magic" £1 per gallon that is seen as the benchmark for the dairy industry.
