An attempt to block the renewal of a music and dance licence for a former church failed yesterday. The Temple Theatre was granted a licence 18 months ago for a deconsecrated 19th-century church building in Temple Street, Dublin.
It is directly opposite Dublin Corporation flats complexes and beside Temple Street Children's Hospital. Three residents claimed their sleep was repeatedly disturbed by patrons arriving and leaving.
Judge Joseph Mangan said he would consider imposing conditions on the licence if the theatre and the residents could not come to an agreement on measures to reduce disturbance.
The Garda supported the licence renewal. Insp Patrick Culhane said it was the best-run club in the city but it might be in the wrong location.
Judge Mangan adjourned the case to June 29th. If the parties had not reached agreement he would impose his own conditions.
