An Irish dancer, who claimed she broke a bone in her foot when she slipped on a hotel dance floor during an exhibition, has lost her claim for up to £30,000 damages.

Mrs Sharon Hutchinson (32), a mother of four, of Hampton Cove, Balbriggan, Co Dublin, said she slipped on liquid on the dance floor as she and her sister, Celine, were demonstrating an Irish reel for English guests at a wedding reception.

Mr Martin Hayden, counsel for the Deerpark Hotel and Golf Courses, Howth, Co Dublin, said staff had seen the groomsman join in the exhibition and accidentally kick Mrs Hutchinson's foot.

Judge Anthony Kennedy, dismissing the case, held that in law the mere fact she had a fall on a wet floor did not prove negligence against the hotel.
