London - Police investigating the murder of Jill Dando are exploring a possible connection with the rape of a vicar's daughter 13 years ago in Ealing, writes Luke Holland.
A former BBC security guard Martin McCall (34), who was jailed for the assault on Jill Saward in 1986, is said to have resigned from his job at the BBC within days of the murder. He quit his position shortly after a directive was issued at the BBC, which ordered that the criminal records of all employees be checked.
The firm that recruited McCall became suspicious when he suddenly resigned, and informed the police of their apprehensions. The E-fit picture of the suspect seen running from the murder scene is said to match McCall's appearance.
