Dart services have returned to normal after a security alert forced the closure of the line between Lansdowne Road and Dalkey in south Dublin earlier today.

A suspect device, believed to be a pipe bomb, was found on a pedestrian bridge over the Dart line on the old Dún Laoghaire Road before mid-day. Gardaí were called and an Army bomb disposal team called in.

The team arrived at the scene at 1.25pm and declared it safe at 2.50pm. The Dart line was re-opened shortly afterwards.

The Army described the device as viable and have classed it as what they term a "find" meaning it was probably being stored on the bridge for use elsewhere. It has now been handed over to Gardaí for their investigations.
