DART trains in Dublin were two carriages shorter yesterday because of damage to 30 carriages caused by a fire at the Fairview DART depot on Saturday.
Seven trains were cancelled yesterday morning because of the fire. A spokesman for Iarnrod Eireann said it hoped most of the carriages would be back in service within the next few days. However, it may be several months before the depot, used for maintenance, is fully operational. The gardai forensic unit are investigating the cause of the fire.
