The date for the retrial of Dermot Laide for the manslaughter of Brian Murphy outside the Burlington Hotel in 2000 has been fixed for next year.
Dermot Laide (23), from Rossvale, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, was found guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in February 2004 of manslaughter and violent disorder in relation to the unlawful killing of Mr Murphy outside the hotel on August 31, 2000.
His conviction for manslaughter was overturned by the Court of Criminal Appeal on February 24th, 2005. Prosecuting counsel Mr Brendan Grehan SC told Judge Desmond Hogan that the retrial of the manslaughter charge could take four to five weeks and he asked for a date next year in order to give the case a "fade factor".
The trial was set for April 24th, 2006 at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
