Former world boxing champion Steve Collins will face a retrial in November over an allegation he hit a doorman almost four years ago, a court ruled today.
The 44-year-old is accused of assaulting Adriatik Vodo, causing him harm, at the National Stadium on June 3rd, 2006. He denies the charge.
Judge Katherine Delahunt, sitting at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, listed the five-day trial to start on November 8th.
The boxer, who lives in St Albans, Hertfordshire, was excused from attending the brief hearing.
Mr Vodo, an Albanian national, was working as a doorman at the venue when it is alleged Collins assaulted him.
A jury failed to reach a verdict on Collins in November 2008 after a six-day trial and four hours of deliberations.
The Irish middleweight was working as a TV commentator at the venue on the night, covering a bout featuring Dubliner Bernard Dunne, who retired after last year after winning and then losing the WBA super-bantamweight world championship.
Collins, who was known as the Celtic Warrior, was crowned world champion after his win over Chris Eubank in 1995. He won 36 out of 39 fights during his career.
