An application to prevent Golden Pages listing telephone sex lines in its new directory will be heard by the High Court on June 29th.

It is claimed that two pages of the existing directory, which list the sex lines, are indecent and that the new directory should exclude this material. It is understood that the Dublin section has already been printed.

Mr Justice Kearns was told the matter was urgent as the directory is due to be printed early next month.

Mr Patrick O'Connor, a director of a quarry supplies firm in Castlewarden, Straffan, Co Kildare, and his partner, Ms Anne Ryan, who is suing on behalf of her young children, Terri and Eoin, have taken the action against Eircom, The Golden Pages Ltd, the Censorship of Publications Board and the State on the basis that the two pages are indecent.

On Tuesday, the couple got leave to serve short notice that they would be seeking a restraining order against the respondents. When the matter was called yesterday, Mr Peter Finlay SC, for the applicants, said he would be seeking an interlocutory injunction (an order which would prevent publication until after the hearing of the full action). The matter was urgent because Eircom wanted to print early in July.

Mr Justice Kearns said it was an urgent matter and it seemed that there was no great complexity about the issues. He listed the application for hearing on June 29th.
