The daughter of a woman abducted and murdered 13 years ago will be distributing leaflets today in an appeal to help catch her killers.

Marie Kilmartin (35) vanished from her home in Portlaoise, Co Laois, in December 1993 and her body was found in a bog six months later.

Marie's daughter, Aine, who only discovered in recent years that the dead woman was her mother, will be distributing leaflets today in Portlaoise as part of her campaign to raise awareness about the unsolved murder.

Gardai found Marie's fully-clothed body under water in a bog drain 12 miles from her home. She had been strangled and her killers had placed a concrete block on her chest to weigh her body down.

Aine said today: "The person who murdered her but who left a brick on her chest must have a very hard heart to do something so callous to such a lovely woman."

Detectives believe that one or more individuals with local knowledge of the Midlands may be responsible for the murder.
