Disgraced German football coach Christoph Daum has been charged with drugs offences, the prosecutor of the city of Koblenz confirmed today.

"The details of the charges will be published on Wednesday," said prosecutor Erich Jung.

Lawyers for Daum and his four co-accused told the regional newspaper Kolner Stadt-Anzeigerthat he had been charged with possession of cocaine.

The report said the co-accused were Daum's suspected drugs dealer, who worked in a hotel in Cologne; the owner of a hotel in Ahrbruck who is accused of ordering a kilogram of cocaine from Venezuela and obtaining 100 grammes for Daum; a bodybuilder from Cologne; and a doctor from Leverkusen.

Daum, 47, is currently coaching at top Turkish club Besiktas.

His career had nosedived last year when he tested positive for cocaine after denying press allegations he had taken the drug.

The affair cost him his job at the helm of Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen and the prospect of taking over the German national team later this year.
