POLLS:INDEPENDENT presidential candidate Mary Davis has stressed she is still in with a chance of winning.

Speaking in Cork Ms Davis said she was not at all concerned with her polling figures, saying a day was a long time in politics.

“I am not at all concerned at this stage. Polls go up and down. There is still a long time to go. I am putting my agenda before the people. I am interested in making this society a better society for every single person who lives in Ireland and for our people abroad as well.”

Ms Davis insisted she acted with “huge integrity” when serving on State boards. She told Cork’s 96FM that this integrity extended to her time on the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) and in particular to its dealings with Denis O’Brien. “There is absolutely no conflict of interest there whatsoever because I excused myself from all decisions in relation to Denis O’Brien.”

She said it was a myth to say she had served on so many boards at the same time with her involvement with boards going back over a decade and with the majority being not for profit.

“I have served on those because I want to bring something to people who are disadvantaged, who are disenfranchised.

“That is what I have been doing all my life and that is what I want to do as president as well. It is a myth to say I have served on so many boards together. They have been well over a decade and many of them to create change and to provide opportunity for people who are marginalised. Those are the people I truly care about.

“I only served on three State boards altogether.”
