A new farm entrepreneurship and leadership programme at Dublin City University was launched by Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney yesterday.
The programme has been developed by DCU’s Ryan Academy with the agri-food industry and is aimed at entrepreneurial farmers and people hoping to take on leadership roles. Some 22 farmers are taking part in a pilot phase of the programme, studying areas such as corporate governance, financial management, entrepreneurship and innovation.
Mr Coveney said the agri-food sector was “one of the key growth engines of the Irish economy and supporting the next generation of leaders is vital for the continued success of the industry”. DCU’s Ryan Academy is a not-for-profit institution. Its chief executive, Ann Horan, said the course would help participants meet the challenges of 21st century farming .
