Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown is one of the new county councils established in 1994, when Dublin County Council was divided into three administrative units.

The new "county" incorporates the old Borough of Dun Laoghaire and the Rathdown area of Co Dublin, stretching as far west as Rathfarnham and south to the Wicklow boundary.

Its first draft development plan - on public exhibition since May - aims to ensure a "consistent and co-ordinated approach" in the context of "sustainable development".

The deadline for objections or representations on the draft plan is August 22nd. All such submissions must be taken into account by the elected councillors before the plan is adopted.
