HIGH LEVELS of the anti-clotting medication warfarin were a factor in the death of a woman who suffered a heart attack, an inquest has heard.

Margaret Lennon (67), Sandy Hill Gardens, Ballymun, Dublin, died at the Mater hospital on November 17th, 2009, the day after her admission in a gravely ill state.

Lennon was on the anti-clotting medication warfarin. She had an abnormal heart rhythm and had a heart attack after developing a bleed in her bowel with a consequent drop in blood pressure.

Coroner Dr Brian Farrell said the cause of her death was related to the anti-coagulation going out of control and a heart attack due to risk factors, including heart disease and bleeding into the bowel due to warfarin anti-coagulation and advanced lung disease.
