Composer of note, fiddler and concertina player, singer and storyteller, his 90 years spanned the heyday, decline and revival of the music.

All through his life this gentle, empowering personality had people of all nationalities calling to his door to play and to learn. His name is legend in folk music circles throughout the world.

President and treasurer of the Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy, and teaching there until last year, on his eightieth birthday in 1988 the Arts Council honoured his contribution to the arts with the presentation of a portrait commissioned from painter Briain Bourke.
