Snooker: Six-time losing finalist Jimmy White will have to qualify for next year's world snooker championship after being knocked out by fellow Englishman David Gray in the first round.

White failed to mount a comeback after trailing 6-3 overnight and went down 10-5.

"I really did struggle and it was very frustrating," White told reporters.

After dropping out of the world's top 32, White will now have to win two qualifiers to play at The Crucible next year.

"I still love this game and feel I'm good enough to win," said the 43-year-old. "I'll...give it my all and hopefully I'll be back here next year."

In the opening second round match, Australian qualifier Neil Robertson opened up a 6-2 lead over England's Stephen Lee at the end of the first session.

Robertson compiled a break of 109 on his way to taking a 3-0 advantage.

Lee responded with runs of 64 and 135 to reduce the arrears, but breaks of 74, 56 and 73 put Robertson four frames in front.
