Irish Rail has reported delays to trains in and out of Heuston station in Dublin this evening due to a train failure earlier.
A company spokeswoman said there had been a problem with this morning's 10.30am Cork-Heuston service. The train broke down in Kildare and engineers came from Inchicore to fix it. There was a further problem at Newbridge and the passengers had to disembark and take the following 11.30am service, the spokeswoman said.
Services on the line suffered significant delays but the company said they were now returning to normal.
There were delays of up to 30 minutes to northbound and southbound Dart services due to a points failure in Dún Laoghaire.
Dublin Bus accepted valid rail tickets during the disruption to service. Irish Rail said shortly after 5.45pm that normal Dart services had resumed.
The company is publishing updates on its website.
