Westmeath senior football manager Luke Dempsey has ruled himself out of an interview procedure for the senior football managers post.
According to media reports this afternoon, Dempsey has indicated that he would not be putting his name forward for interviews for the job, which has effectively ruled him out of the procedure by which the county board intends to select the next Westmeath manager.
Dempsey failed to get adequate support to continue his role at a county board meeting two weeks ago. At that point, delegates decided that an interview process should be established with a view to selecting the next manager.
In July, after reports of disquiet at player level over the continuation of Dempsey's tenure, he claimed that he had held meetings with the senior footballing squad and was confident of their support.
