Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey has said he has not decided if he will run in the next general election.
Mr Dempsey told Newstalk radio this morning that now may be the time for something other than politics.
“I’m in politics and was always in politics out of conviction. I don’t think politics is working as well as it should in the current circumstances," he said.
Mr Dempsey is one of two Fianna Fáil TDs in the three-seat Meath West constituency. He was first elected to the Meath constituency in 1987.
The other serving TDs in Meath West are Johnny Brady of Fianna Fáil and Damien English of Fine Gael.
Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern, who represents the Louth constituency, announced last week that he will not stand in the next general election for health reasons.
