Glion - The Turkish-Cypriot leader, Mr Rauf Denktash, has rejected fresh UN peace proposals aimed at putting an end to the 23-year division of Cyprus, one of his aides said yesterday. Mr Denktash, who is in Switzerland for UN-sponsored talks with President Glafkos Clerides of Cyprus, insisted that the European Commission first drop its plans to discuss Cyprus's entry into the EU. Mr Mumtaz Soysal, a legal adviser to Mr Denktash, described as a "serious error" the commission's announcement that admission talks would begin next year.
