A bird charity has received €406,000 from the Department of Heritage to further its work in support of birds of prey.
The Golden Eagle Trust is involved in the reintroduction of white-tailed eagles here, and, according to figures released by the department, the money for the sea eagles has been provided since 2007.
Over that time about 100 eagle chicks from Norway have been introduced to Killarney National Park.
More than 20 of the raptors have died, but the remainder seem to have thrived and have dispersed widely over the last four years, with at least six flying to Scotland, one flying more than 2,000km to the Orkney Islands and then returning to Kerry, and many crossing to the North.
