A 61-year-old man from Co Derry is expected to be brought before a court in Thailand in connection with the fatal stabbing of another Irishman.
If convicted of murder, Mr Patrick Oliver Farrell formerly from the Northland Road area of Derry, could face execution.
He was detained by police after his business partner Mr Ernest Brennan (45), originally from Howth in Dublin, was stabbed to death in a bar they both owned, in the resort town of Pattaya, 100 miles form the capital Bangkok.
The incident happened after both men had an argument outside the bar, called Jimmy's Place. When they went inside the older man is said to have produced a kitchen knife stabbing Mr Brennan in the neck and back.
It has been reported that there were witnesses to the incident despite the bar being closed.
