Bells in Catholic churches in Derry City will ring at 4 p.m. today to mark the 27th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, when 13 men were shot dead by British paratroopers on January 30th, 1972.
Events organised by the Bloody Sunday Weekend Committee will culminate in the annual commemorative march along the route of the original march, leaving from Creggan Estate at 2.30 p.m. tomorrow. The march will end with a rally at Free Derry Corner in the Bogside.
Among those who will address the rally will be Mr Tony Doherty and Mr John McKinney, of the Bloody Sunday Relatives' Group, Mr Breandan Mac Cionnaith of the Garvaghy Road Residents' Coalition, Mr Martin Ferris of Sinn Fein and Ms Alice O'Brien of the Justice For The Forgotten Dublin-Monaghan Committee. At 11 a.m. tomorrow, relatives and friends of the Bloody Sunday victims, as well as people who were wounded, will hold a wreath-laying ceremony in the Bogside.
