Athletics: European women's 100m hurdles silver medalist Derval O'Rourke has been warmly welcomed on her return to Ireland from Gothenburg.
O'Rourke and other members of the Irish athletics team from the European Championships, arrived back in Dublin late this afternoon.
The Cork woman's triumph in the 100m hurdles final on Friday represented the first time that Ireland has won a sprint medal at the Championships.
O'Rourke was jointly awarded the silver medal along with Germany's Kirsten Bolm after both athletes clocked an identical time of 12.72. This marked a new Irish record time and surpassed O'Rourke's personal best of 12.85.
Sweden's indoor champion Susanna Kallur took gold with a time of 12.59.
Overall the Irish athletics team came home with an impressive tally of 5 personal bests of those two national records, 8 finals, 2 semi-finals and 1 silver medal.
