A detective who was described as a key witness in the Morris tribunal into alleged Garda corruption in Donegal, has been charged with drink-driving.
Det Garda Noel McMahon, with an address at Foxfield, Carrickmacross, was charged with the offence at a sitting of the District Court in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan yesterday.
The charge related to alleged drink-driving at Magheross, Co Monaghan, on March 30th, 2003.
Det Garda McMahon was not in court, but local lawyer, Mr Pat Callanan, who is attached to the office of Co Monaghan State Solicitor, Mr Enda O'Carroll, said he had been asked by a Louth-based solicitor Mr Michael Hennessy, to enter an appearance of behalf of the accused.
Garda Insp James Marks, Carrickmacross, said he understood the defendant was indisposed at present and he was requesting an adjournment to a further sitting of Carrickmacross District Court on April 27th next.
Judge Flann Brennan granted the adjournment.
