Three bombs discovered at the side of a Co Antrim road were being examined by Army experts tonight.
The devices were made safe after being found on the verge at a crossroads outside Ballyclare. A quantity of ammunition was also seized at the scene by the security forces. There were no arrests.
Meanwhile, services on the Belfast to Dublin railway line returned to normal tonight after the latest bomb alert on the track proved to be a hoax.
The cross-border line was disrupted after a telephone warning claiming that two bombs had been planted on the track between Lurgan and Portadown, Co Armagh.
A search proved the call to be a hoax.
Last week the line was closed in two places, a bomb was defused on the outskirts of Belfast, and security forces came under petrol-bomb and stoning attack from nationalist youths while they searched the track outside Lurgan.
Dissident Republicans have been blamed for a spate of alerts which have closed the main line, and other important routes within the province, on numerous occasions in recent months.
