Hollywood star Danny DeVito will attend the upcoming 2013 Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, it was announced today.

The US actor, producer and director will receive a special lifetime achievement award at the 10-day event which takes place in February.

"From his defining role as Louie De Palma in the hit TV show Taxi, to his phenomenal film career including roles in One Flew Over the Cuckcoo's Nest, Batman Returns and his directorial classics The War of the Roses, Throw Momma from the Train and Matilda, Danny DeVito has enraptured audiences across the world with his unique brand of humour," organisers said.

DeVito will be presented with a Volta career achievement award at one of the festival's showcase events.

The Volta awards are named after Ireland's first dedicated cinema, the Volta Picture Theatre, which was established by James Joyce in 1909 on Dublin's Mary Street.

Previous recipients have included Al Pacino, Daniel Day-Lewis, Gabriel Byrne, Kristin Scott Thomas, Patricia Clarkson and Paolo Sorrentino.
