IRISH X Factorhopeful Janet Devlin has made it through another round of the TV talent show as the competition intensifies for the final, six-week run.

Working a vampire-bride look in honour of Saturday night's Halloween theme, the Co Tyrone singer gave a haunting – but not always in a good way – interpretation of the Police song Every Breath You Take, which seemed to be intentionally dissonant.

She must now do battle with eight other contestants to reach the grand finale on December 10th. To the judges’ surprise, Sophie Habibis and Misha B secured the fewest public votes in last night’s results show and went head-to-head in a tense sing-off, with Misha B scraping through.

While not exactly full of thrills, Saturday's show saw most performers up their game. Highlights included Johnny Robinson's deliciously schmaltzy cover of T hat Ole Devil Called Love– although Louis Walsh's assertion that we had been transported to the famous jazz club, Ronnie Scott's, seemed a trifle OTT.

Kitty Brucknell turned in an electrifying rendition of Sweet Dreams, the wow-factor of which was exceeded only by her hair and make-up.

But while the contestants were cranking up the volume, the judges had toned down, perhaps owing to the absence of Kelly Rowland. She was said to be unwell, fuelling speculation she had fled to the US after a squabble with one or more of her fellow panellists. Former X Factorwinner Alexandra Burke took her place.
