TRIBUTES:TRIBUTES HAVE been paid to Queen Elizabeth ahead of this weekend's Diamond Jubilee by Britain's three main party leaders.
Prime minister David Cameron led the testimonials, describing her as “brilliant, enduring and resilient” over her 60-year reign.
Labour leader Ed Miliband praised an “extraordinary life of service”, while Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg said the weekend’s Jubilee celebrations were a “fantastic and fitting opportunity. . . to celebrate an incredible contribution”.
All three leaders will be attending Jubilee events during the weekend and spoke to The House magazine ahead of the celebrations.
Mr Cameron said: “Diamond is an appropriate epithet for this Jubilee. For 60 years the Queen has been a point of light in our national life; brilliant, enduring and resilient.
“Through a reign of unparalleled change – from post-war Britain through to the jet age, space age and digital age – she has remained resolutely unchanged in her commitment to this country.
“She promised to give her heart and her devotion ‘to these old islands’ and that promise she has kept beyond question.”
Mr Miliband said: “Her Majesty the Queen has dedicated herself tirelessly and constantly to the people of our country and the Commonwealth for 60 years.
“She has led an extraordinary life of service, which sets an example to us all.
“Throughout her reign, Her Majesty has shown herself to be selfless, tireless in duty, unflinching in service and unerring in her commitment to the people of Britain.” – (PA)
