London - Charitable organisations associated with Diana, Princess of Wales, have welcomed the proposal to build a fountain in one of London's royal parks, as a permanent memorial to commemorate her life and charity work, Rachel Donnelly reports. The exact location or design has not yet been agreed.
The proposal, announced by the British Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair, and the Chancellor, Mr Gordon Brown, will be put to the princess's family for approval. It ends months of behind-the-scenes wrangling over the question of a permanent memorial to the princess.
An earlier plan to build a fountain in the grounds of Kensington Palace Gardens, which surround her former home, was blocked by local residents who feared an influx of tourists.
